Apple plans to release several higher-end devices with Mini-LED displays in 2021, including a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro in the first quarter, a new 16-inch MacBook Pro in the second quarter, and a new 27-inch iMac in the second half of the year, according to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Chinese research firm GF Securities.

This timeframe lines up with one shared by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who recently said that Apple suppliers are slated to begin mass production of related components between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021, suggesting that the majority if not all of the Mini-LED devices will be released next year.

A few months ago, Kuo said that Apple plans to release six Mini-LED products by the end of 2021, including 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, a 27-inch iMac Pro, a 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a 10.2-inch iPad, and a 7.9-inch ?iPad? mini. The analyst said these displays will allow for thinner and lighter product designs, while offering many of the same benefits of OLED displays used on the latest iPhones, including improved contrast and dynamic range.

Switching to Mini-LED displays will also allow Apple to distance itself from the Samsung-dominated OLED display market, according to research firm TrendForce, which also expects a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a Mini-LED display to launch in 2021.

Apple is reportedly investing over $300 million in new Taiwanese factory that is expected to produce Mini-LED and Micro-LED displays for future devices.

We shouldn’t be bothered with 2nd half 2021 rumors when the iMac and iMac Pro updates for this year still haven’t materialized. No one knows so far in advance so it’s pointless.

Guessing we can probably can expect a full MacBook line redesign in 2021 with new ARM processors as well. (or are the current redesigns with new keyboards the redesign?)
They could thin the bezels even more so it’s actually edge to edge.

What happened to the 6 mini led products launching in 2020
And next year it will be another excuse,
Do investors really listen to Ming kuo or just
Just tech you tubers?

I really hope they put a variable refresh rate screen on the next 16" with the top refresh rate being higher than 60 Hz. That would make the one I already own perfect in my eyes.

At this point I’m beginning to think the iMac will get nothing more than a spec bump in 2020 and a redesign — or at least a trimming of the bezels — won’t happen till next year.

I have an old iPad 5th gen and a 2012 MacBook pro. The MBP is still a solid machine for someone who doesn't use pro apps, but the iPad barely lasts a day on standby anymore, and the battery replacement cost for an iPad is ludicrous. That and I don't think it's going to get the iPad OS update this fall. I'm really trying to hold out for an ARM macbook and a mini-LED iPad though. Whichever one comes out first is probably going in my shopping cart.

On TVs, kind of; on phones, it’s arguably Samsung.

It's a little more than kind of. They have a monopoly on the industry. I don't know if someone else has entered the game, but as of a few months ago LG was the only company producing OLED TV panels. Sony and Panasonic are using LG panels.

Probably just a spec bump. Any redesign would be next year is my guess...sad.

who can even predict that far forward even apple doesn't know lol

With new technology requiring new factories or new production lines you probably can. It will take some time to set up and tune production so that it can run at the volumes Apple requires. This is fairly difficult to "hide". These rumors are basically based on good contacts into the suppliers that will deliver the new components.

That is one of the biggest concerns against the iPad: when compared to Macs of the same age it seems they lack longevity.

I've ben looking to replace my 2011-2012 hardware with an iPad Pro, but an MBA seems to be a better long-term investment for the same (actually a bit less) money. The specs are there for the MBA, RAM in particular.

I've really been agonizing about it, pitting the pros and cons of each setup against each other. I fear taking the iPad plunge and then realizing I needed or wanted something it can't provide.

That said, modern iPads are so powerful and efficient that perhaps the issue is just my old-school thinking. The more homework I do on the iPad's capabilities, the more impressed I become. And they're just so FUN to use.

This is going to be a difficult year. Do I wait, or pull the trigger?

Why is the 11” iPad Pro excluded I wonder? Surely they’re not going to drop the 11” in favour of 10.5”
Expected that end of 2020 we see a new 11” iPad Air (still with an A12?). Hopefully the smaller pro remains in the lineup, I hate the idea that if you need better then you need to buy bigger.

I have the same concerns, but I believe it is the difference in usage. The iPad i charge over night and then use disconnected. 2 - 3 years and the battery is consumed due to the number of charge cycles.

The MBP stays plugged in much more, hence battery last longer.
