Earlier today, we reported on a proven leaker's claim that a new iPhone SE and iPad 11 would be released alongside iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3. Just minutes later, however, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman put the kibosh on that rumor.

In a follow-up social media post, Gurman said an iPhone SE replacement and new iPads are "being developed on the iOS 18.3 train," but that "doesn't mean" the software updates and the devices will launch simultaneously. Instead, Gurman said Apple is aiming to release the devices "by April," at some point "before iOS 18.4" is released.

So, there you have it. Sometimes one rumor quickly leads to another, and now we have a clearer timeframe for the launch of these devices.

we do? are you sure? are you really sure?
LOL
Yes. The new clearer timeframe is now sometime between tomorrow and the end of April... "but obviously things can still theoretically change"

April makes a lot more sense than Jan given the decade and a half of history that we have to infer from
What are you going to trust more, history or some unknown person on Twitter X with a (supposed) track record of leaking accurate iOS-related information?

Most likely won't because Apple wants to move on from the M3 due to manufacturing challenges, and giving M4 to iPad Air would be on par with the iPad Pro, which Apple most likely won't do.
Not true. Apple launched the M1 Air not long after that chip hit the Pro. The differences in value lies in the OLED screen, thinness and Face ID tech. Moving all their products to variations of the M4 would allow Apple to simplify its supply chain and move on from relying on a discontinued outdated die.
And as you stated, the M3 is basically stillborn and set to be abandoned in the next couple of months itself.

Speaking of, hope we see an M4 MBA release this month if not next. As an experiment I’ve been relying solely on my 11” Pro since gifting my old MBA to my college bound daughter in the fall, and this has not been a fun experience. Love my Pro, but anyone that thinks it can fully replace a computer is either the antithesis of a power user, or solely speaking out of PR fueled ignorance.

Until the Pro line comes with a MacOS option, it remains a supplement, not a replacement.

That’s after the mobile world congress in Barcelona where all the mobile phone manufacturers show off their latest and greatest. Don’t think the iPhone SE will turn any heads unless your locked into Apple’s ecosystem that is.

Exactly.

Which also has me thinking that Gurman doesn't have anymore info than anyone else.

He's just going off what's most likely to happen based on past SE launches. Which is fair and all, and absolutely the most reasonable approach.

But I just hate this notion that he has insider info on all upcoming Apple products and has the authority to debunk other leakers.

This is what I heard from industrial rumors as well (who shall remain anonymous)

Apple is planning spring keynote announcement for the iPhone SE and iPads, either in March They also plan on announcing the M4 MacBook Air and M4 Max and M4 Ultra Mac Studio and Mac Pro at the same time. (They are still working on M4 Extreme option but chance are slim, might be delayed till M5 lineup)

Spring is going to be super jam packed event for Apple.

Does Apple announce SEs way in advance themselves or is it more like the iPhone? I’d like to give my dad a little certainty although “expect April” does sound fair enough.

I didn’t think the January rumor made sense. Apple definitely wants to release it during the spring sales slump, like always.
It would make sense if Apple wanted to get as many products into the United States as possible before Apple needed to pay the tariffs. (Tariffs which are not paid by China, but are paid by American corporations and passed on to American consumers.)

With Tim Cook ‘donating’ money to Trump’s inauguration fund though, maybe Apple can avoid the tariffs again (like Apple avoided the tariffs last time).

Tariffs are unlikely to be put in place on tech like Apple’s devices. They were talked about as a means of combatting companies like Temu, which undercut American stores by selling direct to consumers using a loophole intended for travelers.
