iOS 12.2 and macOS Mojave 10.14.4, available in a beta capacity for developers as of this morning, expands the availability of Apple News app to Canada for the first time.

Canadian iPhone, iPad, and Mac owners can use Apple News in both English and French, with Apple's release notes indicating a bilingual experience is available when following a channel in a second language.

Apple says that publications available during the beta testing period do not reflect all of the content that will be available, and Top Stories and Digests are not updated as frequently as they will be when the feature officially launches.

Apple News first launched in iOS 9 in 2015, and initially, it was only available in the United States. It later launched in Australia and the UK, and those countries, along with Canada, are the only countries where the app can be accessed without adjusting the region location.

Canadians who are using Apple News for the first time (and U.S. readers) can access MacRumors content by following this link.

Apple News in Canada is limited to developers at the current time, but will be available to public beta testers as well when Apple releases public betas. iOS 12.2 and macOS Mojave 10.14.4 should see an official launch after several weeks of beta testing.

why can't it just be a backend update? remove the region specific restrictions. I can already access apple news on MacOS 10.14.3 by showing hidden files.

I would assume these updates have other changes, too. Even if Apple could just turn it on in previous versions, why would they? Tying it to new releases lets them easily limit testing to actual testers (i.e. those who've installed a beta). Releasing it only in new releases lets them reduce the combinations they need to test.

Finally!!! Tim Cook also give Canadians apple pay cash please...

Maybe in 2022. :p Canadian banks seem to move really slowly.

Oh great, I was so looking forward to this since the first day it was launched in the US! I'm going to ditch Google News now. And I hope they get content as easily available in French, especially for Québec news outlets. Merci! Can't wait to try it!

Apple News is horrible. Who wants "curated" (censored) news items when one has access to the entirety of the world wide web at their fingertips?

Me. From what I've seen it makes for an excellent reader app with streams I provide, and has some curated streams I'm interested in as well.

I find it funny you're equating curation to censorship. I have absolutely no time to read all the news in the world. I need some form of curation. So does everyone.

My condolences Canada.

Annoying app. Useful if you want to be uninformed, or want to know what the majority of the uninformed know.

Better to find multiple sources on your own and filter info with your own faculties. Having an independent mind is better than being part of the hivemind.

You know the news in Apple News comes from hundreds, if not thousands, of different news sources right? They span the spectrum from far left to far right.

I guess this is good... still, I'm going to stick with my current RSS reader.

I've installed it and am pleasantly surprised at the content and quality. Not sure if it's a flipboard replacement yet. . .
