Ahead of tomorrow's launch of iOS 11 and tvOS 11, the "TV" app has begun showing up for some Canadian and Australian users on iOS devices and the fourth-generation Apple TV.

While the TV app appears to be rolling to users in Canada and Australia starting tonight, it is not yet available for all users, nor is it functional. MacRumors reader John, who is from Australia, said the TV app has shown up on his fourth-generation Apple TV but isn't loading content as of yet.

Apple last Tuesday announced that the TV app would expand to Australia and Canada "later this month," but did not specify exactly when it would be released. Presumably, the app will become functional tomorrow after iOS 11 and tvOS 11 become available to the public.

The TV app, which has been available in the United States since December of 2016, is designed to provide a centralized way to access all of the different television channels and content available through dedicated apps from major networks like HBO, CBS, NBC, FOX, and more.

The TV app allows users to play TV shows and movies with a single click, and it syncs content across devices so it's always possible to pick up a TV show or movie being watched on one device on another device. Apple has also introduced content recommendations to help users discover new TV shows and movies to watch.

More than 60 services are supported by the TV app, but with the expansion to new countries, Apple plans to add support for additional local content

Later this year, Apple plans to expand the TV app to France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, and the UK.

Takes a while to load content... just so you know, and you kinda have to go to individual Apps and watch shows 1st sometimes...

For our local broadcasters Apps in Australia, we don't login.

Does the TV App need that?

To be pedantic, "Ahead of TODAYS launch".

Which wouldn't be "ahead" I guess.

It's already Tuesday 11am here in australia.

I really want this app to be functional and work (here in Australia) - but fail to see how it will unless I pay for a subscription to lots of channels I can't even get access to. I like the integration with iTunes films/shows, but without Netflix working on it, and not many other options, I am yet to be convinced of it's purpose.

In Canada it suggests a ton of content from the French CBC app, without indicating it’s French content. Going to be a real pain if you can’t filter out sources.

Have you ever tried to watch a movie preview in the store only to find that it's the french version of the preview? It's incredibly annoying.

Works for me. Just watched Corrie without having to airplay from the CBC app on my iPhone.

Yeah buddy!

You'll have the 5 networks to start with. 2/3/7/9/10. No payments there.

Yes, and it’ll be Wednesday, aka tomorrow, in Australia when iOS 11 is released.

I don't have cable. In Canada. Can I now pay for an HBO subscription with this?

Is HBO Now available where you live? If it is not, then you cannot order it without a cable subscription. Search for it (different from HBO Go) on the App Store.

Just turned up on iPhone 7 Plus (Australia). Seems to be working perfectly as well. All the networks apps ask to be included in the TV app when you open them. Tbh, downloaded them just to see how it all works *shrug*.

The app downloaded when I restarted iPhone, so may do the same for y'all as well.

Apparently it will consolidate all the free to air TV apps. And really SBS and iView are exceptional.

Try free trial of Stan to see how it fits in too.
