While the so-called "iPhone 17 Air" is not expected to launch until September, there are already plenty of rumors about the ultra-thin device.

Overall, the iPhone 17 Air sounds like a mixed bag. While the device is expected to have an impressively thin and light design, rumors indicate it will have some compromises compared to iPhone 17 Pro models, including worse battery life, only a single rear camera, only a single speaker, and an A19 chip instead of an A19 Pro chip.

Below, we recap 17 key rumors for the iPhone 17 Air as of June 2025:Bookmark our iPhone 17 Air roundup to stay up to date with more rumors in the coming months.

Not up to date on the rumors for this. Is this meant to replace the baseline iPhone? If not... who's looking for a more expensive iPhone that doesn't have all the Pro features, but does have worse battery life? The only crowd I would think would be interested in this would be those who liked the Mini iPhones, as a mini+light iPhone could be appealing to some.

But full size? I'm not sure who goes for this.

The rumors point to the baseline iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e to have a staggered release mid-year, maybe Spring, while the Pro and Air stick to Fall.

My thought is that this replaces the iPhone 16 Plus but also appeals to the iPhone 13 mini crowd. There might a market here. If this iPhone really is incredibly light but as versatile as the iPhone 16 Plus, it might work.

No

Me and many others I suspect

Mini phones mean a smaller screen and much worse battery life. This hopefully will have a large screen like the Pro Max. Of course there has to be compromises when it comes to camera and battery life. As long as battery life is similar to the regular iPhone I’ll be happy

For all the talk about reduced battery life with the new “Air,” I will point out once again that at least one review of Samsung’s new S25 Edge indicates it has the best battery life in the S25 line. Now, of course, the Edge is a bit thicker than the “Air” is rumored to be (maybe .3 mm). All I’m saying is don’t be surprised if battery life isn’t nearly as much of an issue as some believe it will be.

WHO asked
The World Health Organization? I guess that’s possible.

Smaller means the phone would be thicker to compensate for battery loses in thickness rather than area, as this phone does.
Exactly and thicker would be the iPhone mini. We all know how that sold because of the poor battery life. I don’t think a thinner version of the iPhone mini with worse battery life would sell any better.

Did we ask for a thin and light iPhone?

I certainly did. And am looking forward to checking the 17 Air out when it's in the local Apple Store.

I remember the retorts on tech forums when Jobs announced iPod: "Who asked for a thousand songs in your pocket?"

It's astonishing so many people believe Apple *still* doesn't know what they're doing. Even though it has 1+ Billion active and repeat customers, making Apple on of the most successful consumer tech companies in the world. Apparently Apple just got lucky manufacturing and selling an average of 600,000 iPhones per day, every day of the year.
