If the Mail app on your iPhone is not working lately, you are not alone.

General-iOS-Mail-Feature.jpg

A growing number of iPhone users are seeing a blank screen in the Mail app, according to comments posted across the MacRumors Forums, Reddit, Apple Support Community, and other online discussion platforms. Affected users are unable to view any emails in their inboxes, and the app can also become glitchy and unresponsive.

The issue does not appear to be tied to any specific iPhone model, and the underlying cause is unknown. Most if not all affected users said their iPhones were running iOS 18.5, but it is unclear why online discussion about this issue only started to gain traction within the past few days, given that the update was released more than three weeks ago.

Affected users said restarting their iPhones temporarily solves the issue, but a permanent solution has yet to be identified. MacRumors has emailed Apple about the matter, and we will update this story if and when the company responds to the inquiry.

The issue is not reflected on Apple's system status page as of writing.

Thanks, Steve Ryan!

Yep, been happening randomly for the past few days. Only way I can get it to work again is with a good ol' fashioned turn off and back on again.

Happened to me multiple times yesterday. Force quitting the app and then waiting a few minutes before reopening worked for me. (Immediate reopening after a force quit does not fix the problem.)

Same with me. I ended up turning off the email accounts one at a time, waited a bit, and re-enabled. Seem to do the trick. But not sure what would have caused this to happen so late after the 18.5 update, unless there's stuff going on in the back end to get ready for 26?

Everyone can relax, because I can report that the Apple Support SOP is here to save the day:

1. Restart you device.
2. Force reboot your device.
3. Reset Network Settings.
4. Reset All Settings.
5. Erase and Set Up as New
6. Collect screen recordings and logs for an RTA to Engineering by a Senior Advisor
7. Senior Advisor submits RTA to Engineering.
8. Within 48 hr, receive a response that Engineering is aware of the issue, keep your device up to date, and no further troubleshooting will be provided.

That’s extremely helpful. Thank you! 👍😊

All fine here.

I’ve had this issue since going to iOS 18 last year on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Happens routinely and not just with Mail. Health and Messages apps have also caused the screen to go blank (not even time/battery/signal images display) when accessing them or hang up endlessly until I reboot. Seems like some rogue background process, perhaps indexing?

Yes been happening and rebooting the iPhone fixes it for a bit. Swiping to clear the app doesn't fix it, soft reboot does the job temporarily.

iOS 18.5 Issue started 6/4/25; and immediate Mail force quit does not clear the issue when occurs. ...I've had to force quit Mail several times and eventually Mail "seems" to normalize. Yes, an iPhone reboot helped on 6/4, but issue reappeared 6/5; macOS 15.5 Mail has not had same issue (for me). ...Inconsistencies are the most frustrating.

just started happening yesterday..had to restart a few times today. no evidence of malware that i could detect or other problems evident, but then, i'm no expert on any of this.

I had this issue as of yesterday. I went to the App Store to find a temporary mail app and noticed apple mail needed an update. It is now working for me. This may be an issue with auto update.
