Apple caved.
If Apple really believed Qualcomm's patents were unfair, they would have fought this to the end. Instead, Apple just signed a 6 year licensing deal with Qualcomm, "including a two-year option to extend, and a multiyear chipset supply agreement."
Maybe Qualcomm agreed to not double charge both Apple and the contract manufacturers for the same license or charge them a license on the Apple’s total device instead of just the chips involved. So Apple agreed to pay for the patents like they should have from the beginning? Maybe Qualcomm gave them a slight discount?
What this comes down to is Apple really wanted those Qualcomm 5G wireless chips and Qualcomm really wanted Apple's $
Curious, what about your 7 Plus "can not survive much longer"?Qualcomm modems in the future iPhone? When exactly as my 7+ can not survive much longer...
They didn’t fight it because Qualcomm caved, and the new license is no longer unfair. Any lawyer will tell you that Qualcomm charging a patent license fee when you already buy their chips violates Supreme Court precedent.
QCOM stock is up 16%. AAPL has not moved. Who do you think has won?Willing to bet that Qualcomm took a lot less to just get something. Rather than chance not getting anything.
Good. Time to make nice.
This can only be good news

More like Apple wanted to get something so they stopped litigation.
A six year license agreement with a two year option at the end.
Apple paying Qualcomm.
Qualcomm stock up more than Apple.
best outcome for both. Stop paying the lawyers and tying up the courts.
Someone decided they had it wrong and let it go or Intel is just not working out so they needed to move on to get ready for the next phone build.
They "folded" because Apple agreed to pay what they wanted. It's Apple that folded here. That was quick, wonder why Qualcomm folded so quickly.
Intel modems are hot garbage. The iPhone XS Max is an amazing phone ruined by horrible connectivity. We know Intel's modes aren't working out for 5G. I expect there's a token payment, and Apple's gonna have as many 5G modems as they need.
