There are companies that use Intel Mac Minis as rack mounted servers. My guess is they are keeping them around for specific use cases like these. I’m sure at some point they’ll switch over but are giving companies time to prepare.
I forgot the 2018 Mac mini went back as far as macOS Mojave (i.e., can still run (some) 32-bit apps).

Also, Rosetta 2 has done so well for me. Even an app such as Air Video Server HD (circa 2012-2014) still functions fine in Big Sur on M1.

I’m starting to get back into video editing and it’s perfect for the relatively simple kind of work I’m doing at the moment. It’s tempting to want the newest and best, but the M1 is a great chip that can handle all of what an average user would want.
Yeah; in most cases the highest I go is 1080p, and my M1 MacBook Air handles it very nicely, rendering finished projects at 1/3 of the speed of my 2012 i7 Mac Mini! So it'll be neat to see how the Mac Studio will handle it, along with once I decide to make more 4K videos.

[...] Seems like normal/fair upgrade pricing. What is missing is the Mac Studio with M1 Pro at $1499-1699
Totally agree on the pricing, more than reasonable.

It definitely would be a good "middle ground" for the M1 Pro to be there, however I'd bet the Mac mini gets an M1 Pro option in the future. The Studio's thermal system would likely be overkill for the M1 Pro.

I love how at the end he says there’s only one Mac remaining to receive the M1 chip, Mac Pro.
What? Is there going to be a 1000 TB / 1 PB option with that computer?

If only the studio offered the M1 Pro chip.
The m1 max is overkill for my needs.

Cant wait to see a tear down of the Mac Studio. Curious to see the cooling of it relative to the logic board.

Yet another Apple event with tons of Mac GPU talk and not one.. single.. solitary... game on display. Nothing even cursory or pathetic, like showing Skyrim running at 600fps. Just nothing. This company is allergic to traditional computer gaming.

I think there was a racing game that was shown on the iPad Air?

Full Mac Pro will need PCIE slots.
Easily expandable RAM - current one could have 1.5tb.
GPU Upgradability

I am wondering if they will use MPX style slots for Whole computer CPU / GPU / RAM expansion - Various config units you can just slot in as whole units

$2000?! The price of 2 Mac Minis and exactly the same 512Gb storage?!

And then $1500 for the screen?

??? A fully configured iMac Pro (which is probably the closest equivalent) ran close to $13K. A cinema 30" display with an education discount ran $1900, for a total of ~$15K.

I was quite suprised at the price. Maxed out studio Pro is only $8k, that's $5k less, without the monitor. If you include the monitor, even with the pivoting stand, the total is ~$11K. That's a $2k price drop.

My Mac Studio is on order. I ordered the base model with a 1TB SSD upgrade for $2199. I don't think there's a lot of value in the Studio Display, so I'll continue to use my 30" ACD for the time being. If I really want to upgrade the monitor, I'll either wait for refurbs of the Studio Display or order something else.

My 2014 Mac Mini is getting a bit crusty, so this is a huge upgrade! I'm excited, as it's finally the Mac I've been wanting for years - a desktop without a monitor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg like the Mac Pro, but still has decent power. Perfect.

I just need to see a few benchmarks and then I'm getting this.
Coming from a maxed out MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), and plan to max this for about the same $6500 the MBP cost.

Any of you early adopters feel like running the After Effects M1-chip beta, and Cinema 4D on it and let me know how it does? Thanks!

Why wouldn’t anyone just get a MBP and run an external display off that, instead of one of these studios?

Look forward to the Apple Refurb store having more M1 Mac Minis!

Can finally get one.

It’s hard to imagine all the conversations on here not too long ago about Apple no longer serious about Mac. I love that Apple has completely rejuvenated the Mac lineup in less than 18 months. We got the M1 in November 2020 and by March of 2022 we have M1 powered Macs with all new MacBook Pros and an entirely new Mac Studio. The future is bright for Apple computers.
