Remember the old Sony patent we used to laugh about?
It's getting more and more plausible year by year

It's okay, because the suits who are "only" earning billions will cry in a few years that piracy is "killing" the industry

As much as iOS products cost versus the competition, there's no excuse for any ads. I remember when Steve Jobs stood on stage and said "we use these products too, and we don't like ads" when launching iCloud. How much things have changed.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if higher ups at Apple had versions of the iOS Apps w/ ADs disabled?

(nothing would shock me anymore)

Just keep all the ads to the App Store and don't add it anywhere else...

Another Mark Gurman maybe/maybe not... Kuo Ming Chi and Ross Young are more trusted than that guy...

Tired of the sheer volume of advertisements that are in our everyday lives… so far the worst ones are when you are watching a TV show and they take up the bottom quarter of the screen with a banner promoting another show on their network. Makes me not want to watch what they are advertising.

Then the icing on the cake was the email I got from Hulu about their terms updating…

Reminds me the mobile providers who provide “unlimited data” but throttle you when you go over their arbitrary data limit.

Nooooooo.
I get enough pop-ups from places like Starbucks, and eateries, that ads in maps would be maddening while I’m driving some place new (to me). They would also be a distraction, and thus would/could become driving hazards. (McDonald’s 500 ft, Wendy’s 300ft on the left, Kroger 1 mile ahead on the right, etc.).
From the article:
“Ads in the Apple Maps app would not be the traditional banner ads that you see on websites, but rather paid search results. For example, a fast food chain could pay Apple to appear near the top of the results when a user searches for "burgers" or "fries." Many similar apps already offer search ads, including Google Maps, Waze, and Yelp.”

Anyone who has convinced themselves that this means that they will start getting pop-up ads when driving is clearly just looking for something to be mad about

And folks wonder why some are re-boarding the ship and heading back out to sea

another annoying feature in apples ecosystem, as soon as I see an ad I’ll uninstall maps, there’s enough annoying features that work with no logic or reason within apple software. I only really use my iPhone to watch cat gifs nowadays when taking a dump so 👏 to apple, your pushing me away from your ecosystem. You’l get no revenue from me

I would have thought this would be a topic that would also get you riled up a bit more -- I'm surprised

This one feels just objectively "bad" to me ... not you?
To me it is literally all a question of implementation.
If (as the article describes) The advertisements are purely restricted to search results, then I could care less.
If I search for “coffee” and Starbucks is the first result that comes up as an advertisement that they paid for, who cares? It’s likely going to be the first result, anyway even if they weren’t paying because it’s the most popular. Barely changes anything about the experience.
Now if what was being described was banner ads constantly being at the top and bottom of the screen, a nonstop flow of advertised recommendations you couldn’t get rid of or ignore, or (worst case scenario) pop-up ads that would obviously become a hazard, I would be against this totally and completely.
But search result, priority ads? Like I posted earlier, I thought this has been a thing. And I would have thought this would have been a thing since like, Apple Maps was introduced in iOS 6. It’s just such obvious business.

I’m not really happy about it, but I do have Waze and google maps on my phone. To me the differentiation of Apple Maps is privacy. But if I search for restaurants and paid ads come up, similar to google searches, I won’t be happy. But what to do?
