I'm long of the opinion that these sorts of ads are cringe and reflect worse on the advertiser than whoever they're trying to mock. (Samsung are the absolute worst at it)

But who knows, maybe if they got juston long to play the pixel and john hodgeman to play the iphone; it'd be more social acceptible :p

I have a Pixel 8 Pro. So much nicer than the iPhone in many ways. Except, it’s not as good for typing on somehow. The keyboard just isn’t the same to me. But obviously, the loss of the locked in ecosystem built for anti competition is a big win. I don’t believe anything any of the companies do. It’s all marketing. More power to Google for pointing out how Apple copies them.
Funny how people get used to some things. Personally, I think the keyboard, typing feel, and autocorrect/autocomplete are the only things where iOS lags behind Google really badly.

I'm a semi regular pixel user as well. I would suggest leaving it 18 months before reviewing any phone.

In context, I have 1x 6s, 2x 2020 SE, 13, 13 Pro, 15, 15 Pro all in service in the family. The Pixels I buy are burners for risky travel locations because you're lucky if you get a couple of years out of one so it feels less horrible if it gets stolen or destroyed. They get GrapheneOS on them because stock Android is intolerable.

As for the original point. Speak strong when you are weak. Yes Google that's what it looks like.

Pretty lame and desperate from Google. Just like Samsung‘s cringy ads not advertising their own product but rather firing shots at iPhone instead. Pretty sure it only targets their Fandroid audience to feel better and iPhone users will continue to enjoy their iPhones without switching after seeing those totally convincing „ads“.

One must wonder.. why is the camera hump/bump even a problem? Nobody complained about giant lenses sticking out the front of handheld cameras. It was how the devices needed to be designed. Same here. It's a freaking small, tiny bump. Big freaking deal! #perspective #firstworldproblem

You put a lot of handheld cameras in your pocket? The point would be to have the phone lay flat. I would prefer that and I was giving my opinion on it.

You do realize this is a forum discussing smartphones right? Everything in here is a first world problem so you aren't breaking any new ground with a comment like that and just get an eye roll from me.

Funny!

I laughed when iphone copied the pay-off! A subtle stab, cleverly supporting the underlying message of copying.

That’s actually what’s cool…… android (as an open system) works with all manner or things from different manufacturers. You don’t just get Google accessories with a pixel, that’s Applethink. You get pretty much whatever you want (and save a ton of cash for as good if not better tech in the process!)
Wow, I better throw out my non-Apple Bluetooth earphones because apparently they don’t work with my iPhone. Same for my non-Apple Bluetooth speaker. So glad I came here to learn I have to obey Applethink. Whatever that is 😂

Funny ad. Some of the ads in the Pixel - iPhone series are really good. Always good to have competition and choice for consumers.

AppleTV is on Android too, AirPods are working perfectly fine with Android (beside a fact that there are better options with better sound quality) and what kind of privacy are you talking about? What search engine do you use on your iPhone? What social sites do you use? They all are spying you, neverthless a phone brand.
1.) AppleTV the box… not TV+ the service.
2.) Fast switching with AirPods Pro is peak convenience.
3.) I use DDG for search. No socials other than MR and similar forums.
4.) And Google collects EVERYTHING… no thanks to hardware that enables that behavior. I have a Firewalla to block any errant hoovering too.

You can't blame Google really lol. 'If' the designs we are seeing are representative of the next iPhone, Apple have effectively copied the Pixel's aesthetics which amazes me to be honest. Apple have always had a strong design identity, often accused of being less innovative in recent years, but the dummies we are seeing are laughably like the Pixel.

The problem with Apple is they market their "new" features as if they are groundbreaking and were the first. Apple are leaders at convincing people through their marketing.
True but to be fair it’s new to the iPhone which, for me, is all I care about.
Apple definitely has a robust marketing team.
Personally I’m immune to their marketing tactics during the keynotes 😂

Great video, apple has lost the plot. The Ai cock up just about summed it up. Apple appear to be more of an American thing now, hardly anyone in the UK uses iMessage. Even apple fanboys here now seem to exclusively use WhatsApp.

Very clever of Google to put the blame on Siri: the Pixel knew exactly that the iPhone would have come up with wrong info thank to Siri😁.
If Pixel asked itself it would have known that The MagicEraser followed Samsung's ObjectEraser and that the Night Mode existed in Note 4 from 2014 already, and that most probably someone else did it even before.

I live in a major tech hub of the US and I don't think I've ever seen someone with a Pixel out in public, maybe once or twice. All I see is about 90% iPhones, 10% Android-- mostly if not all, Samsung.

Google has a lot of work to do.

Google this week targeted the upcoming iPhone 17 in an ad for the Pixel 9 Pro, mocking Apple's design plans and suggesting that Apple often copies Android features.

The iPhone 17 isn't released, of course, so Google's ad is based on rumors that the iPhone is going to get a horizontal camera bar at the back, which is a Pixel-esque design. Dummy models and mockups of the iPhone 17 depict a thick horizontal camera bar for the iPhone 17 Pro models, and a slimmer, more Pixel-style camera bar for the iPhone 17 Air.

Google's Pixel lineup has long used a horizontal camera bar, but it has lenses arranged in a horizontal line. Apple plans to continue to use a triangular arrangement for the iPhone 17 Pro models, and will simply expand the camera bump.

In the ad, Google points out that the Pixel had a horizontal camera bar first, before delving into other features that Apple has allegedly copied. The video is positioned as a "podcast" featuring a Pixel phone and an iPhone.

Google highlights Night Mode, Clean Up, and widgets as examples of features that were available on Android first. The video wraps up with the iPhone copying a line that the Pixel says first: "We want to remind everyone that these rumors are just rumors."

"Please don't go repeating everything you see," reads the video description. Google has used the iPhone and Android ad format in the past to mock Apple's iPhone design decisions, most recently targeting Apple's switch to USB-C.

I’ve never used Android, but every time curiosity hits, it’s always the Pixel that catches my eye. I was a techie back in the early ‘80s before it was trendy—and I’d like to dip a toe into the Android pool without all the extra stuff like DeX, GoodNotes, UI7, and whatever else they’ve bolted on lately. At some point, I may end up giving her a try as a second phone just to learn. 👨‍🔬
