Hopefully the Mini 7 will return to the aspect ratio of the Mini 5. The Mini 6 got taller and narrower. Almost every pilot I know carries an iPad mini to mount it on the yoke. The 5 was perfect as it fits the FAA approach plates better.

Absolutely!

The aspect ratio change got sort of under discussed due to all the (justified) jelly scroll talk

I really prefer the ratio on the 5 and older

So it would have the “jelly” scroll in landscape? How is that better? It’s an overblown problem for most people anyway. A better screen is always appreciated though.
Exactly, i use my mini 95% of the time in landscape, the other 5% is because of you MacroFactor, why are you forcing portrait, it makes usability super awkward, especially when I want to split screen with another app for creating recipes, etc

A sketchy rumor suggesting Apple will release an iPad mini with 120Hz ProMotion was revived today in the Asian media, but a well-connected display industry analyst has already reacted to the reports with skepticism.
If they can sell 6.7" iPhones that support 120hz Promotion it is not too far fetched to suggest a premium 8.3" iPad mini with it also. Numerous people here would have loved to see that be sold. Incorporate a M1/M2 also, so it could drive an external display also, be the ultimate compact device.

Yes. Again, almost nobody compained about it with previous generations, so portrait is clearly the way to go. And sure, 120Hz would also help with it, but that’d entail a price increase (on top of inflation etc.)

I'd be okay, not happy, but okay with 60Hz if they fixed the jelly scrolling. Coming off a 2018 Pro and trying a Mini in the store I was absolutely shocked how terrible the motion was on the Mini. I can't believe anyone bought one and would much rather have the older model.

It really is oddly jarring… Even for a pure 60 Hz experience it seems low grade somehow

I honestly think it’s one of the worst new product screens they have ever released, especially given a 20%+ price hike for the model

This is where I struggle - we’ve obviously used 60Hz iOS devices for some years now. But somehow the mini has such a jarring experience with motion / smoothness when there is any sort of animation on the display. Maybe part of it is being used to 120Hz on my iPhone and iPad Pro, but boy does the mini feel just off.

I’d absolutely love a ‘pro’ version of the mini (really just want 120Hz and Face ID), but I doubt we’re going to get it any time soon. Honestly I’d wager more money on the mini going away than the mini getting those features.

I've been waiting for an iPad mini with ProMotion
Seems Apple will keep you waiting.

Although ProMotion offers a unique experience, most average users probably wouldn’t really notice the difference. I see the value in ProMotion, but I suspect most consumers won’t with a price hike if this model were to actually happen.

iPad mini likely never gets it. the purpose of the mini is a portable iPad for on the go and likely won't be updated for 2-3 more years. I ordered one for delivery tomorrow but even 256gb wifi costs just under £600. adding pro motion will only make the price go up even more.

I'm happy with my current mini 6. Never saw the "jelly scroll" that a lot of people here doom & gloom over.

The one thing I do wish Apple would bring back-- but I know they never will-- is the dock (similar to the Lightning Dock from the iPhone 5-6 era). As they move towards (inefficient) wireless charging tech, all I can do is leave my devices flat on my desk as they charge. Except my phone and AirPods, which charge on those docks.

In the same vein, I'd be extremely happy with a hardware kickstand. Absolutely the best tablet innovation Microsoft ever made.

Funny how we consider Mini’s the only portable iPad now
