From a Reddit thread there’s another user who said that had screen record on when the glitch lines appeared but they didn’t show up in the video.
Would that say it is hardware or not necessarily?

I just found that thread and read it. It looks like his issue is different though, bc he was not unlocking his phone.

For the rest of us, the issue is solely when unlocking. There could be something else wrong with this phone.

I would suggest to stop worrying about it, or take it to the Apple Store. At any rate, if it is software it will be fixed by Apple, if it is hardware it will become increasingly worse and the issue would be unavoidable, and Apple would offer a replacement. You will not find the evidence you are looking for here or anywhere else, sadly, for the time being--but the issue will be solvable one way or another :)

Yeah that make sense since for our problem we can’t really screen record since it happens when waking up the phone. And you are a right.
I get so paranoid because it is my the first time I buy such a high premium phone like this one and it is also one of my work tools so I get way too worried about it.😂

Hopefully it will get fixed by Apple soon.

Happened 3 times today twice while unlocked and once while locked.

I've been getting it too, figured it was a software issue but I've seen it in both the 18.1 and 18.2 betas. Might take it into the Apple Store if it's still there in 18.2 RC.

Stopped happening after a full restore and setup as new. Also stopped using a MagSafe case. Wonder which one did it lol

Must be a full restore. Because when I read your comment I took out my case and very casually got the lines again haha.

I’ve also noticed that yesterday the lines showed up when my phone was unlocked with instagram open. But they were exactly the same as the other ones I’m pretty sure also lasted the same amount of time.
It was in low light conditions as well so I’m not too worried, still waiting for a fix from Apple soon.

I got the glitch again yesterday and called Apple Support to see what my options were. I was sort of insistent that they needed to offer me a solution/clarity on why I was still facing this issue.

I got transferred a bunch of times until finally a was talking to a (rather grumpy sounding) senior manager, who informed me that the Apple Engineering team is aware of the issue and they have identified it as a software GPU handling/promotion issue which will be fixed in iOS 18.2. Let’s see if that’s true or was just telling me what I wanted to hear.

Hasn't happened since updating to 18.2 beta on my 16PM

Someone from Reddit said this:

“It’s an OLED. I’ve just had my phone tested by Apple Genius today, no hardware issues were found. A senior support specialist then called me from a Texas number and told me they’re aware of the issue and know it’s software. He said either 18.2 or 18.2.x will fix it.”

So finally we know it is a software issue confirmed and apple will fix it soon

Currently on public beta 3 to see if anything changes.

Issue is still in the latest beta. It seems to be less frequent (could be my imagination), but still happens.

I am wanting to say both 18.2 RC1 and RC2 have fixed this issue. I was at a concert on Saturday night constantly unlocking my phone in rapidly changing lighting while my phone struggled to connect to cellular data (both of which seem to have been conditions for the problem appearing before) and the issue did not occur. 🤞

That is great news! Can’t wait to receive the update soon.

Still happening for me on RC2 but seems less frequent...? It's definitely software anyway as my iPhone was replaced and it still occurs.

Hasn’t happened on the Lock Screen again for me, but happened twice only on the X/Twitter App?!?! Thanks Elon.

I think X forces the phone to use the 120hz when scrolling (whereas it seems native apps lock to 90hz for high speed scrolling), which could be causing the glitch again (a sudden change in refresh rates, like the initial glitch that occurred when AOD would go from 1hz to 120hz during wake/unlock)

Someone just reported in the 18.3 thread they are experiencing the vertical lines... ugh.

So I’ve turned AOD off (unrelatedly, mainly bc I just found it useless)—so this issue stopped affecting me—but I was curious to see if 18.2.1 fixed the AOD flicker issue.

Turned it on after updating, and not even 10 mins later it happened again, same as before, bottom third of the screen.

Just silly. They shipped the buggiest phone. Nothing like this ever happened on my 13 Pro when it was new.

Not sure if 18.2.1 fixes it, but it still exists in 18.3 beta 2.

I found a very strange way of recreating it (but only works half the time)

In the GoPro app when I connect my iPhone to the GoPro via WIFI the iPhone switches to data to stay connected online while the WiFi is being used to preview the GoPro.

When the phone switches to data the flicker lines show up the same way it does when waking the phone up or at random times.

I makes kinda sense as a lot of people report them when they are outside.
So as other users have said before it has to be related with the use of 5G or 4G affecting the display drivers or something along those lines.

Makes me hopeful thinking it has to be software related so it can be fixed without replacing the phone.

I decided to just get the phone replaced with Express Replacement. Was free of charge since they still don’t know what the problem is but know it’s not accidental…wonder if the new one will also have the glitch.

Mine got replaced and still glitches so must be a software thing

Let us know if you get the lines in your new phone!
