if the name of this new iPhone isn't what I expect it to be - im not buying it
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;

As long as they don't call it an Ai-phone.😑
In a follow-up post today, Majin Bu cited a source who has apparently seen an iPhone box with the name iPhone 16E on it.
Can you really trust someone named after an anime character?🤔🙃🤭🤭

Unless they release a new “E” model every year this doesn’t make sense to me.

Once again what I have been saying:

16E makes more marketing sense than the SE 4 based on rumored specs. But with the expected price gap, I would not be shocked if Apple went to $599 for the 16E and stopped selling both 14 and 15 at the same time.

Then you have Good, Better, Best Apple loves to do:

$599 16E
$799 16
$999 16 Pro

EDIT: Adding that when the 17 launches in the fall, that is the perfect time to drop the 16E price to $499 as it will have 'old' hardware compared to the new models. This would also allow Apple to offer AI on all sold phones. This makes perfect sense IMO.

An "iPad Mini 6" move
Good call

I have a cousin that works at Apple. The new iPhone will indeed be called the 16E. Apparently the E stands for peasant phone.

This may start a new iPhone release trend, similar to what Google does with its Pixel "a" models i.e., launch a budget version of a previous year's model every year.

This year's budget iPhone would be the 16E, next year the 17E, year after that the 18E, and so on. It could also mean that one and/or two year old models would no longer be offered new from Apple.

Because Apple refreshes the SE every 3 years. Unless they plan to change that, pretty sure they want to keep selling the “16E” beyond this year. Once the 17’s comes out, it will become irrelevant, just like how the 15 Pro’s are now. From a marketing perspective, they need to differentiate the 2 lineup.

It would look pretty pathetic, still selling a 16E next to a 17/18/19 series iPhone. SE naming makes more sense for their 3 year cycle.
Sounds like the perfect strategy to upsell customers who care about a name…

That would be me. I'm not a peasent, but my neighbors think i am. It"s called Stealth Wealth. I didn't become a 50yo retired millionaire by buying fancy crap to impress others. And indeed, it has been confirmed this morning by press release. Peasant phone for me!

Don’t take it too seriously. It was just a joke. I’m actually considering the 16e myself. I love the clean and simple design of the single lens camera system but a bit bummed they left out MagSafe.
