In this case I'm not sure they're convinced it even has to be better in any way users would notice. Just more integrated and cheaper to produce would be fine with them.

People have also likened it to the relationship with Intel, where they had to wait for Qualcomm to give them what they wanted rather than making it on their own schedule like they do now with their SOCs.
Yes in a sense Apple doesn’t mind being just a hair below Qualcomm in modem speeds. Apple will come out on top by not paying Qualcomm a King’s 👑 ransome and better integrating the modem in there iOS software. More profits and seemless.

The Goat 🐐 Steve Jobs would be Happy with Cook 🧑‍🍳

Ha well he would have been happy with him for the first few years, definitely. That's why he put him there. But Steve was right that he's not a product guy, and he seems to have alienated the people around him that were (Ive (for better or worse), Forestall, etc.)

I really wonder what Steve would say if he could see what Apple is today. I honestly don't know. They ran out of Steve's ideas about the time of the Watch, and the ones that have been done wholly without him have been...not as good.

Obviously Steve would change up some things immediately if he were alive, but overall he would be happy and impressed that Apple 🍎 became the first trillion dollar company in history under Cook 🧑‍🍳

I am also interested to know what this means for Qualcomm, especially their earnings. Will we be seeing any significant dip in their revenue (Apple will likely end up paying them way less in licensing fees?), and whether this will impact their future R&D and product roadmap plans.
iPhones are about quarter billion units shipped worldwide annually.

Androids are approx 1 billion units.

A complete transition can happen as early as iPhone 17, 18 or 19.

Looking forward to 5G/6G modems in Macs and other devices as late as 2030.
