Apple is pulling the rug out from under the scenario we commenters had already established and agreed upon. So unfair.

And probably will be for many too

Case in point, not everyone has $3500 to just throw around all willy nilly for something like this

With this being the pro version, one can only assume that the next version they unveil in the non-pro one will be a good bit cheaper

...what big, tangible things will you cut down from this one so they deliver that "good bit cheaper"? Because that's the one way Apple rolls something out and then follows it with something newer-but-cheaper.
  • M2 goes M1 or maybe an A-series chip in the next one? Less processing power will help.
  • Less RAM or Less storage?
  • Less Battery?
  • 4K lenses drop down to 1080p lenses (this would certainly make a big difference and is how the cheapie alternatives offer those lower prices now)?
  • Less cameras probably negatively affecting functionality? Poorer quality cameras probably negatively affecting functionality?
Name what big things get cut to make the price a lot lower. Pretty much everyone expecting this cheaper version don't do that. Instead, they expect both NEW and "as good" at considerably lower pricing. Where does that happen in the rest of the Apple computing tech lineup?

I too would love for this thing to cost $1500 or $1K or $500 or $100. I don't want to pay $3500 for this one or probably more for the next ones. But how does Apple actually get down into those prices we want?

The way this happens is that in 3 years....M2 is the cheap version, the construction isn't a single piece of glass, manufacturing has gotten easier, etc. basically they sell the current version as the cheap version with a few cost savings moves.

Right... and going by the "norm" of how that goes with Apple's other computing-based lines, this version will be about 10%-15% cheaper in the refurb store and when it is the "old" version sold next to the new version... which I would gauge as not "quite a bit cheaper" myself.

Many of these people expecting cheaper are expecting <$2K pricing. I see no path there short of significant cuts to key features of the product.

Some seem to think "cheaper" is $2500, and that's apparently a desirable price to some. I could see Apple delivering that by putting cellular functionality into Vpro and people could buy it with iPhone-like $1000 subsidies for about that much... with 2-year cellular contract.

Still others seem to think "cheaper" is < $1500 and maybe < $1K. I see no way there for Vpro without tremendous compromises in most of the key features. This version maybe is priced down there in the used market in about 4-6 years... when visionOS is about to leave it behind and Apple is not far from declaring it vintaged.

Perhaps Ireland will be among the first after Canada and so on.
Nope as Apple does not even have an official retail presence in Ireland and never will, given the country houses their European HQ (down in Cork).

One of those slippery loophole conditions that enables them to minimise their corporate tax liability, something the Irish government is quite happy about, their EU overlords much less so.

I doubt this very much, more likely WWDC will be “and now it’s available for all you developers across the world. We can’t wait to see what you do with it.”

Tempting but I will rather wait for second or even third generation of the device. The price is so serious so In don’t want to regret after one year

If by money you mean exorbitant credit card and health care debt then you are correct.

Well... look at the GDP.
Socialists in Europe tax too much. In Germany, nearly 45% (single), France also nearly 40% etc.

The German economy with -0.3% growth LOL.

My two predictions:
1. Sold out in minutes; immediately being scalped on second hand market for $10K+
2. VP software available will be prohibitively expensive due to the small install base.

Also- imagine the ad-supported apps?! Who wants ads creeping into their peripheral vision, or worse- scrolling down to have an ad suddenly pop over their entire reality. What about an AR ad where the table in front of you suddenly has a kitchen appliance and an actor walking in from out of view to use it and talk to you about it. Oh the innovations! /s

Even if it is available outside US before WWDC, not expecting to see it in many countries. Wide availability will take time.

Well this is interesting. Have Sony managed to massively increase the production of the displays (what was it again - 400k annually?), or have Apple had to completely reevaluate their sales projections?
