With Apple's fourth-generation iPhone SE launch inching ever closer, new alleged dummy models have emerged online that give us further clarification on some of the details of the device.

iphone-se-4-dummy-bu.jpg

Leaker Majin Bu shared these images on X (Twitter), along with a short video showing off the mockups, which are non-functional devices that case makers create based on information that leaks out of Apple's partner factories.

There have been conflicting rumors about whether the next iPhone SE will have a Dynamic Island or a notch, but the latter is looking increasingly likely. Despite the Island claims, the black and white mockups depicted show the older notch design with the selfie camera just left of center, backing up rumors that the device is largely based on the iPhone 14. There's also a single-lens camera on the back, as expected, along with a glass back and a aluminum band.

Suggestions that the iPhone SE 4 could get an Action Button or Camera Control button also appear off the mark, based on these mockups, which are very similar to images previously shared by leaker Sonny Dickson.

Along with the visible features from the dummy model, the ‌iPhone SE 4‌ is expected to include a faster A18 chip, an Apple-designed modem chip, and 8GB RAM – the minimum amount of memory required for Apple Intelligence. The camera is expected to be the same 48-megapixel Wide camera used in the current ‌iPhone 16‌.

Apple is expected to debut the next ‌iPhone SE‌ sometime in March or April, and it will continue to be the company's lowest-cost device. It could go up in price slightly, but Apple is said to be aiming to keep it below $500.

Notch, 60 Hz, probably 128 GB. Let's see how many more years Apple is gonna get away with this.

Edit: I'll exclude the US from this since people seem to be obsessed with the whole blue bubble thing apparently and since Apple is a local brand.
If it's really going to be under 500 dollars then even with those downsides this will be the best sub 500 dollar phone by a mile.

People on here seem to forget the average non techie consumer doesn't care about the screen refresh rate and they probably dont even know what 60hz/120hz is! lol

I’m definitely not an average user, and I’m currently using 127 GB of my iPhone’s storage (partially thanks to iCloud). So it’s easy to see why they can “get away” with 128 GB in the low-end version.

So now we're back to the notch...

The iPhone line-up is going to be so confusing...

iPhone 16: latest screen design, latest buttons, dual cameras, A18/8GB, AI, $799
iPhone 15: latest screen design, older buttons, dual cameras, A16/6GB, no AI, $699
iPhone 14: older screen design, older buttons, dual cameras, A15/6GB, no AI, $599
iPhone SE: older screen design, older buttons, single camera, A17Pro/8GB, AI, $499

I still think the SE will replace the iPhone 14 in the line-up at $599

It does look quite thicker/bulkier (less premium?) from the images but nonetheless its simple design is terrific. It will be interesting to see whether Apple sticks to the notch or implements the Dynamic Island which might let it age far better down the road when notched iPhones cease to be offered.

If only they also sold it in some smaller perhaps mini sized form-factor. They could advertise it as $399 then sell this regular one for $499.

An incredibly tempting loss-leader that will sell as many units as the Vision Pro, but will appease all of those mewling small phone aficionados (like me).

And yes, without all the lumps and fiddly bits on the back this could be the best looking iPhone since the 4

Oh I only use 40 GB on my iPhone 16 Pro. I see it more like a "principal" thing with competitors starting at 256 GB now. Even on my MBP I use less than 100 GB. Everything is in the cloud.

I am just curious if at some point people will be like "why is Apple half of everything yet like double the price". Obviously it hasn't happened yet so I do wonder if Apple will ever follow Nokia, Blueberry, Windows phone

It really depends. I'd expect it to be well made and have enough processing power to last for years.

On the other hand, you can buy something like a Pixel 8a for £350 which also has enough power for the overwhelming majority of average users, has a decent camera system with night mode (which for me personally is more important than the better processor, but ymmv).

Personally I might still go for an iPhone because it just works with my watch and my AirPods, but I don't think "best phone" is as clear cut as you make it out to be.

By the time it launches 8 more “rumored” features will be gone.

The iPhone 14 is already not on sale anymore in the EU due to the USB-C mandate. I can totally see them retiring it in other markets as well.

Debating if I should go from my 13 mini to this one. I like the size for my 13 mini, but a small upgrade with some trade in also goes a long way.

If only they stripped it off glass and wireless charging making full aluminium frame comeback.

iPhone 7 vibes.

The back finish doesn't look like it is glass. The logo doesn't look like it is under glass. Previous iPhone dummies did use glass backs. It might be frosted glass though.

That is good news. It means the iPhone SE 4 will be like the iPhone SE 1 in the sense that both phones will have the same main rear camera as the current flagship iPhone. That was not the case with the iPhone SE 2 and iPhone SE 3, which both had the same older generation (iPhone 8) main camera. Tim Crook likely did that to save money in order to maximize profits.

The SE 2 and 3 being thinner might have been the main factor.
