Listening to what Apple says is like when people say this is the most important election of our life times and they say it for every single election. I don't want dramatic elections. I want regular elections. The same with Apple. I have to see it to believe it because right now I don't really believe anything that Apple or the reporters who report on Apple news really say.

They just move around 2000 staff who were working to the apple car project to the generative AI project.

From now to the next WWDC they have 3 months. Let's see what comes out.

Yes, so Siri will probably still be dumb as rocks unless you ask questions about drive trains, car engines or car parts... and then you'll think you are chatting with an automative professor/engineer. ;)

Given that Siri still turns the music up when you ask her to turn it down and vice versa, gets requests to play certain artist names and albums wildly wrong, even when spoken in a clear voice, I would put Apple's AI announcement in the spin camp, rather than substance. And then there's the desktop Music app. It's been sub-par for decades now. Is there any wonder that Spotify rules the roost?

"here's what I found for you on the web"

-Siri

i.e. Color me skeptical of any Apple claims here

I don't know what you mean by __________, here's what I found on the web for _________... UNLESS you want to buy something or want to talk automobile parts... and then I can talk your organic ear off puny human. ;)

Good luck finding a tech company that isn't AI focused for the next few years.
Something tells me they're not worth supporting as long as that's the case, so, I think I'm good with what I have for now

"Hey Siri, do you use AI?"

"I'm searching for a bakery near you"

"WTF? I mean artificial intelligence"

"I think you will need an umbrella today"

"You mean it will rain?"

"I can look up reign on the Internet... I have found it. It is what a king or queen does"

"Get lost!"

"I am sorry you are lost. Try using Apple Maps."

"Siri, open Maps"

"I do not know how to do that. I am calling John Appleseed now."

Why a car? They know nothing about making vehicles. It would probably lack necessary features and her absurdly overpriced. They have CarPlay. Thats all we need. Better siri is AI🤷‍♂️
On the contrary, they know enough to know it's not the right project to do.
Focusing on AI more will give them all the expertise they need to later on decide whether to restart the Apple Car project or not.

Break new ground? Just like the new color "pink grapefruit" finely woven trash broke ground for overpriced iPhone cases? Or something actually tangible? I am a little skeptical.

Gee lots of negativity this afternoon. At least wait until you see it in action before you make judgements :)
These forums have gotten more and more pessimistic and flippant as time goes on…

The majority of conversations seem to be critical and condescending at base, with rational discussion and optimistic speculation dismissed or ridiculed regularly.

That said, I’m truly excited to see what Apple has in store for Siri 2.0. I don’t personally care for generative AI, but a truly helpful and advanced AI assistant would connect all the dots of Apples ecosystem soooo well - especially given how controlled/consistent it is.

Bring it on! 🤓👍

I don't know if its possible, but if apple can pull off the same (or better) levels of AI as chatGPT, mid journey, etc, and have some significant level of privacy for a consumer product, that would be a big deal.
It would, but there’s also zero reason to believe that it will.

I find the current crop of AI stuff to be surprisingly useful and fun. Is it somewhat troublesome? Sure. But you can't put the genie back in the bottle so might as well go full steam ahead.
I completely agree. When Shohei Ohtani's contract was first announced, I was curious what his deferred payments would be worth in today's dollars. So I wrote ChatGPT a very simple query, "what would $68 million per year from 2034-2043 be worth in today's dollars each year, assuming inflation increases at the average rate?". And it spit out a literal spreadsheet lol.

I sent the answer to my dad, who works in finance, and he said it was correct.

Bobby Bonilla Day is going to be replaced by Shohei Ohtani Day for the next 50 years.
