I'm sure some of the work on the scrapped Apple Car project made its way to CarPlay Ultra, but I'd love to see what Apple's full vision was for their car's UI.

They should release Apple Car Play Pro Max Ultra. It’s so big that the dash extends outside the car and turns it into a flying car.

Windows

That’s why it was cancelled. They just couldn’t make a car work without windows.

i dont understand...in my EQS and also on the current Audi A5/A6 it works to listen to the car radio and also have carplay waze working at the same time for example

The main app for a car is still the maps app and apple is just not up to par with google on that.
Depends on where you are. For me, Apple Maps are far better. At very least, the turn-by-turn navigation. It's way more specific and detailed in telling you where to go. Example:

Red light that I'm coming up to. Google will tell me to take a right. Apple tells you to go past the light and then take a right. If I used Google, I'd end up taking the wrong turn.

Huh? Why would anyone care for the temp when driving? Wouldn't the weather conditions be way more informative? I would like to know if there's rain, gale, thunder et cetera along my route. What's this? "Let's add some random info on people car displays".

also, why would you want to know what temperature apple thinks it is where you are when your car has a thermometer that can tell you the actual temperature outside?

Funny....I play the one local station I very occasionally listen to (for news or traffic info) through the Music app as its livestream is available there.

Why would I listen to the radio in 2025?
I spend most of my time in a mix of DC and NYC, WTOP in the DMV and 1010WINS in the NY area are both great news stations I listen to all the time, also some great music stations in both markets. Also in a power outage lately where cell service was also spotty it was nice to be able to listen to the radio while we waited to get power back.

Really depends on where you live I think

I want CarPlay to actually work before they add new things. I bought a car in 2024, but found out that CarPlay GPS mapping hasn't been working since 2023 for that car (and many other brands, too). Here's a video to watch before you get too excited for the newest CarPlay:

iPhones have had the ability to receive FM for years; or at least, all the early ones did. Apple just couldn't monetise it so they disabled it.
I suspect it's more that in order to make it work well consistently across radio markets they need a decent antennae, and there's no candidate available. In early phones that had FM radio they often used the headphone cord as an antennae, my last phone before I got an iphone did that, but apple doesnt even have a headphone jack anymore

Well the point isn’t just being able to listen but also to control it to select stations. Right now if you’re in CarPlay Waze and want to change stations you have to go to MBUX home then Radio. Then tap the tiny CarPlay button to get back to Waze.

Only time I've used the radio in my current car is when I listened to music being piped in from someone's Christmas decorations in my neighborhood. I literally pulled up to the house and had to figure out how to get to the radio, because I've never bothered to look.

I have a 2023 Toyota RAV4 XSE Sport that supports wireless CarPlay. I saw a video on the new CarPlay Ultra, and my car currently supports nearly all the CarPlay Ultra features on different screens on my car, plus Apple Maps works with my car system to have multiple displays when giving directions. The only feature I would like to have is AM/FM/SiriusXM app on CarPlay instead of getting out of CarPlay and using Toyota's horrible radio interface. The SiriusXM app on CarPlay is glitchy and slow. I do listen to local radio stations, especially public radio (news and classical music), so just having an app for that would be nice like I have seen Apple display on the new CarPlay Ultra.

Where has Apple said Kia/Hyundai/Genesis are coming "within the next year"? I've seen MacRumors mention this a couple times now but I've not seen a timeline out of Apple's mouth. Just that they were committed.

Because "within the next year" would imply 2026 model years because 2027 model years aren't dropping for over a year.
I believe that it won't be just included with new cars, but flagship cars from last year as well. Essentially, if it has Android Auto and the right hardware, it can run this.

Good to know about this. It will take a long time before it is available in vehicles from other manufacturers and also in other countries.

I had no idea I've been experiencing this "limitation," in my Subaru for... Wow, almost 8 years. I just press the "Radio" button on my console, and I get radio stations. Do I have to return the display to Carplay if I'm using Google Maps? Sure. But I can't imagine this would be any different than using the screen interface to select a radio station and then return to a different view <shrug>.

Also - while the quantity and time spent on radio stations vs. audiobooks, Spotify, Music, etc. has definitely decreased, I'm in a metro area that's blessed with a LOT of great FM stations, and the AM band is still incredibly useful for travel announcements going through the mountains.
