It’ll be hard to believe if they really do go with the notch. Cheap Android phones have been doing the hole punch for years.

Different models of iPhone have different sets of sensors, and have a lot more sensors than cheap Android phones (Face ID, LIDAR, etc). So there’d be a different pattern of holes on different iPhone models which would mean annoying software variances between different models.

I’m not sure I follow. iPhones all have mostly the same, if not identical, sensors on the front, and Apple has been putting the redesigned FaceID sensor that fits into the hole punch for the third year now. I can’t imagine the cost difference for paying for a hole punch display versus a notch is that significant in 2025.

The most important question here is who is Gurman’s leaker? And once the leaker is found, will Gurman be out of a job since he’ll have lost his relevance?

I’ll be looking forwards a new iPhone SE and the features it’ll come with

How would they go about shutting him down? He doesn't work at Apple nor has he ever signed an NDA with Apple.

Anti-“fake news” legislation, perhaps?

Or the old fashioned way. In Russia, journalists who report on fake news often fall off balconies, or suffer sudden heart attacks.

Of course. Strategic, authorised “leaks” are a standard part of Apple’s marketing now days.

Gurman is a journalist who reports the “leaks”. He’s not the actual source of the “leaks”, which come from insiders at Apple or it’s partners.
Counterpoint: Apple security would try to locate his source to shut it down. They've done it before. Here's lunatic John Gruber talking about it: https://daringfireball.net/linked/2024/03/28/apple-sues-leaker-andrew-aude

"Shutting it down" means firing the person who leaks.

Gurman has also used “Apple changed its plans” frequently before, just sayin…
But for all of you who are waiting for this, hope he’s right
That's new to me.

It's usually "but obviously things can still theoretically change"
And the M4 MacBook Air? Surely coming this week too, right? Right??!
Yes. They'll be released "as early as" this week

No other leakers get invites to all of Apple's events. He's not "leaked" anything, he is fed information; some true, some not.

Apple was able to shut down ThinkSecret

Nick Ciarelli, who ran the site, never signed an NDA with Apple either.

One difference is Gurman works for a much larger company that has more money to defend itself.

Why do I feel like Mark Gurman isn't actually a leaker and is instead fed bits of information by Apple directly to drum up hype in the press? Because if he was a GENUINE leaker, wouldn't they have shut him down by now?
He’s not a leaker, he has contacts who are leakers. Apple would have to go after those, because Gurman doesn’t have an NDA with Apple.

This is the difference, quote from your link:
Apple sued ThinkSecret in January of 2005 for "posting Apple trade secrets and encouraging and inducing persons to provide product information in breach of agreements."

If Gurman were to do that, guess what Apple would do

Ahhh the good old days of ThinkSecret!

Apple has not scheduled an event, so the new iPhone SE will likely be announced in a press release published on the Apple Newsroom website.
Maybe a Super Bowl ad? It doesn’t have to be “1984” quality, but it seems like it would be a wasted opportunity to announce a new iPhone, especially one designed for the masses, only via press release a couple of days AFTER one of the most watched events of the year.
