Smart glasses will never replace the smartphone because they have a very limited appeal.
And the issue with smart glasses is how to adequately address the needs of those who already use glasses for vision correction.
I wear varifocal lenses, how long before smart glasses can can be accommodated alongside those types of prescriptions?

I am sure it can come, but it will be a few years yet before they can be mainstream.
Just look at the cost of prescription inserts for VR headsets, adding that on top of already expensive prescriptions is a big consideration.

But I am sure there will be tech in the coming years that change how we use and consume data and media.
There will be innovation, and it may surprise us all.

Who is going to read emails in 10 years???
In my 35+ year career in the high tech industry I have learned that the word “never” is a challenge, nothing more…
You can have your emails spoken out loud now if you want to but very few do it and they are mostly users with impaired vision.

The simple fact is I don’t want to replace my smartphone with smart glasses because I don’t like wearing glasses.

If you look at the history of computing, once a convenient form factors has been established they don’t tend to change radically from the original concept.

Laptops basically look the same as when they were first introduced. The same goes for personal computers with a screen, a keyboard and mouse. Yes we have slimmer monitors and trackpads but it’s basically the same form factor.

I’ve no doubt new devices will emerge and may even become mainstream but they won’t replace current devices like the iPhone. Some people thought the smart watch would replace the smartphone but that hasn’t happened.

I understand the fun of speculating on future technology, but screens are here to stay. Some might want to wear glasses to check a text message but not everyone will.

We still have can openers and they don’t use lasers.

He’s off by about 5 years. With the speed of development - there will be no further need for most apps out there (work, games, etc). One will simply just tell AI what they are looking for and AI will build it for them, update it, and maintain it. Totally personal and user specific. Let’s get those gigawatt factories built already.

In 10 years, we will drill a whole in the skull and place a 50G antenna with rotating bulb on your head. We will call it skAI with an integrated AIPhone. it will be amazing. It will even take pnorama pictures and contai LidAIr to guide you whereever you will go. You can ask it it anything. Some may complain it will becaome the master of the new you, reducing your body to a submissive interface. But in reallity it will be amazing. You will love it. And we only charge 30% of all income you make during your life. Isn't that amazing? We love and and we thing you will love it too.

A smart glass that does everything an iPhone does today would be cool as hell. But there’s the battery problem, eventually people will be still carrying batteries in their pockets and connecting them with… ugh, wires. Now the thing seems more like a utopia, except if a very strong battery technology appears.

Smart glasses will also create a privacy problem, as everyone will be taking random photos more easily, just blinking their eyes. This was already a concern when Google Glass came out.

And you will still need a camera to take selfies.

That sounds really far fetched. How are people going to browse Instagram and all these other apps? Also these companies can't even address the most basic of issues with cell phones in decades, SERVICE. These networks are so congested, can't even get reliable cell phone service half the time and this dude talking that Ai will replace the iPhone, go home dude.
If we still have services like instagram in 10 years, something is really wrong. 10 years should wipe out all current social media usage patterns in exchange for something new. The amount of phone calls over cell services are radically down compared other 10 years ago, so that form of communication will be changed as well.
